Pediatrics East is Now a Certified NCQA Level 3 Medical Home!
In 2013, Pediatrics East achieved the top-ranking Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) certification from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
Pushing for evidenced-based medicine, PCMH certification requires physicians and staff to monitor and record every aspect of the patient’s care, including referrals, medication pick-ups, emergency room visits, diagnostic tests, shots and other services performed both within and outside of the practice. The goal is a team-based approach that provides comprehensive care for the patient. Using a standardized point system and six must-pass elements, the NCQA frequently checks the certified practice’s progress and results.
“The patient-centered medical home raises the bar in defining high-quality care by emphasizing access, health information technology and partnerships between clinicians and patients,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. PCMH Recognition shows that these practices have the tools, systems and resources to provide their patients with the right care at the right time.”
Pediatrics East was founded in East Lake in 1957 by Dr. Vincent Carnaggio, who was joined by Dr. Andrew Charles after five years of growth.
“Becoming a medical home is just a first step in looking at quality, outcomes-based care over quantity-based care,” said Dr. Gigi Youngblood of Pediatrics East. “We’re not looking at how many times a patient comes into our clinic, but how well the patient is doing, how well the patient has managed.”
